NV Establishes Cacao Industry Council to Foster Growth and Sustainability

In a significant stride towards progress and sustainability in the cacao industry, Nueva Vizcaya Governor Atty. Jose “Jing” V. Gambito announced the formation of a dedicated Cacao Industry Council. The council was officially established on November 22, 2023, during an event in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, that saw the participation of 30 cacao enthusiasts and stakeholders from both the private and public sectors.

Governor Gambito underscored his commitment to the cacao industry, pledging his full backing for all related initiatives. “This council signifies a crucial turning point for our province’s cacao industry,” he said. “We’re not merely setting up an organization; we’re mobilizing a unified force that will propel the industry’s growth. I am dedicated to offering all necessary support to ensure our cacao industry becomes an exemplar of success and sustainability. Together, we can position Nueva Vizcaya as a dominant player in the national cacao industry.”

The event, spearheaded by Team DTI R2 Nueva Vizcaya, was designed to evaluate the province’s current cacao industry status and to assign council officers who will steer the sector’s progress.

OIC Provincial Director Rowena F. Mayangat highlighted the importance of the Cacao Industry Council, stating, “The Cacao Industry Council’s establishment is more than a symbolic gesture; it’s a decisive step towards constructing a platform that will determine our industry’s future. This council embodies our shared vision for a thriving cacao community where every stakeholder, from farmers to industry leaders, has a crucial role in fostering innovation and guaranteeing the industry’s sustainability.”

The council elected Mr. Rusty L. Cabacungan as Chairperson, Ms. Jemimah C. Saquilon as Vice Chairperson, Ms. Joylyne G. Kindipan as the Farmer/Producer Representative, Ms. Linda Pascua as the Processor Representative, and Engr. Alexander Adducul as the Trader Representative.

In tandem with the council’s formation, the participants identified and discussed the industry’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats during the Focus Group Discussion. This SWOT Analysis will aid in understanding their existing needs and circumstances, facilitating the development of programs and activities tailored to these findings. /rmi
