A. Castañeda Hosts First-Ever National Field Day

The first-ever National Field Day for the White Revolution Technology cum Vegetable Information Caravan of the Department of Agriculture Region 2, through the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), was held on April 15-16, 2026 at Leszach Farm, Barangay Lublub, Alfonso Castañeda.

In collaboration with the Provincial Agricultural Office, the two-day activity started with a ceremonial inauguration of the farm exhibit and groundbreaking of the hybrid solar-powered cold storage facility (worth ₱12, 786, 595.59) for the Alfonso Castañeda Vegetable Growers Association (ALCAVEGA), a farmer’s association with a 9-hectare farm with partnership to Jollibee Group, MicroAsia, and other companies. The DA also awarded ALCAVEGA with nurseries, greenhouse, packaging house, rain shelters and SDFP.

According to the Undersecretary for HVCDP, Cheryl Marie Caballero, the use of technology will help farmers adapt to the environment and optimize crop yields. She also described that the event serves as an open door for learning and collaboration among farmers and stakeholders.

She highlighted the importance of partnership among local government units and cooperatives, and the significant investment in agriculture and its positive return in terms of income. “The technology that we have today is just a manifestation that investment can happen if you take care of your resources” she said. Technology is one of the key initiatives of DA-Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr, reflecting his commitment to ensure that agriculture remains active and progressive.

Provincial Agriculturist Absalom Rizal D. Baysa, speaking on behalf of Governor Atty. Jose V. Gambito, expressed pride and gratitude for the successful event in Alfonso Castañeda. He said that the activity reflects a vision for a modern, resilient and sustainable agriculture sector in Nueva Vizcaya. Baysa also highlighted the province’s efforts in promoting greenhouse vegetables and organic farming. He also thanked the national government partners and agencies for their continued support, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in strengthening agriculture in the province. He assured everyone that the provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya, together with the local government units and stakeholders will remain committed to serve, maximizing available resources, building partnerships, delivering programs and creating meaningful impact in farming communities.

Through a video message, Senator Francisco “Kiko” Pangilinan, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform; emphasized the importance of technology in agriculture being used to ensure that crops become more resilient against climate change and pest through various interventions applied to farming practices.

The said event was attended by farmers, cooperatives, local government units from the other provinces of Region 2, as well as Region 3 and 4a, and stakeholders. More than just a technology, the national field day cum vegetable information caravan serves as an opportunity for farmers to connect, learn, share experiences and gain new insights-opening the way for a more progressive future agriculture in Nueva Vizcaya. /ctu
