Two Novo Vizcayano women are among the ten (10) awardees in the 2018 IDDU Honor Role Award held in Hotel Carmelita,Tuguegarao City on July 11. The IDDU award is a paperless award system of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 02 to recognize outstanding women who will serve as inspiration and model in the region.

So far, 59 outstanding women and an organization of women were already recognized in Region 02 in the last 6 years since the awards started in 2012.

One of the awardees was Maria Christina S. Opeña, Administrative Officer IV of the Provincial Agricultural Office. Opeña was a two-time awardee in 2016 and 2017 as Outstanding Agricultural Extension Worker for the National Quality Corn Achievers Award. She was the Provincial Corn Report Officer for the “Agriculturang Makamasa,” “Ginintuang Masaganang Ani” and at present the Agri-Pinoy Program.

Opeña also works as member of the Provincial Gawad Saka Committee and the Provincial Nutrition Council – Technical Working Group (PNC-TWG) where she advocates the nutritional value of agricultural products during supplemental feeding programs. She was the Chairman of the Provincial Nutrition Evaluation Team in 2017.

Along with Opeña was Lovella G. Velasco, a professor in Arts and Science at the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) Bambang. Velasco was recently conferred the highest Gawad Balmaseda Award for her research on women writers of the province. The award is for the exceptional thesis and dissertation in the fields of science, mathematics, and social sciences written in Filipino language.

In the IDDU awards, the word “rolls” in honor rolls was dropped and changed to “roles” to reflect the roles, accomplishments and significant contributions of the honorees. “Iddu” is an Ibanag word which means love, care and affection. #bg
