NVSU Professor receives Presidential Award

By on November 8, 2017

The Department Chairman of Agricultural Engineering and Assistant Professor III at the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) – Bayombong, Adornado C. Vergara, received the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award during the Gawad Career Executive Service (CES) and the 2017 Outstanding Government Workers Conferment Ceremony held at the Malacañan Palace recently.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, along with Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairperson Alicia Bala, led the conferment ceremony during the culmination of the annual search for outstanding public officials and employees which has three categories, namely: the Presidential Lingkod Bayan award, for groups and individuals with outstanding contributions with nationwide impact; the Dangal ng Bayan award, for individuals consistently demonstrating exemplary behavior; and the CSC Pag-Asa award, for groups and individuals whose contributions benefitted a department or office.

As one of the awardees, Vergara was commended for his innovative work as a professor and researcher, translating theory into usable, high-impact technology. He developed a locally available nomograph for sizing a centrifugal pump as turbine for generating electric power, an alternate to the more expensive imported micro-hydro turbine that the rural communities in the province could not afford.

Vergara also introduced biogas technology which enables livestock raisers transform waste into organic fertilizer, run a generator for electric power, run a pump for irrigation, and which is compliant to the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999.

Vergara is an alumnus of NVSU-Bayombong and hails from Bakir, Bagabag. #bg
