NVPH hosted free cleft lip and palate operation
In partnership with the Provincial Government, through the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Hospital (NVPH) in Bambang, the Pugad Lawin of Nueva Vizcaya and the Nueva Vizcaya Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Association conducted Project BOSS (Brotherhood Operation Sweet Smile) on July 26 and 27.
Project BOSS is a free cleft lip and palate operation for the underprivileged people in the community. Since the month of March, 31 individuals reported for check-up and screening at NVPH but due to health problems only 17 passed the screening and given the surgery, including a one-year-old baby and a 64-year-older.
A team of surgeons and nurses from different hospitals in Manila conducted the operation together with the chief executive officer of BOSS, Belton Yenko from Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Norte.
Provincial Integrated Health Officer Dr. Edwine Galapon and Dr. Arlene Jara, OIC-Chief of NVPH, also assisted in the said project. Free meals, accommodation and medicines for a week at NVPH were provided to the patients.
BOSS is a banner project of Alpha Phi Omega Southern Mindanao Alumni Association which started January 2011 in Mindanao areas and later spread-out to different parts of the country.
The BOSS project reached the province when a certain Dexter Dangilan of Solano, who is a member of Pugad Lawin of Nueva Vizcaya and member of Alpha Phi Omega International Service Fraternity and Sorority in Ateneo de Zamboanga University, started communicating with Yenko in 2016 and invited him to the province to arrange the project with its partners.
“When a baby smiles, every human being understands and immediately feels at peace and happy. A cleft palate makes this simple reaction difficult to express. Project BOSS is here to remedy this affliction,” Yenko said. #bg
