Governor propose projects for the PWD
The Federation of Persons With Disabilities (PWD) in the province, headed by its President Liberato Estilong and assisted by PSWD Officer Lita Tabudlo, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Carlos Padilla on July 21 at the Ammungan guesthouse.
Together with the PWD in their visit were Janet Peña, Board of Trustees member of the Autism Society of the Philippines; Carmen Zubiaga, Executive Director of National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) and; Ruth Tacujan, NCDA Regional Coordinator; who happened to be in the province for the National Disability Week celebration.
The PWD took the opportunity to seek assistance from the Governor on their programs and projects. Governor Padilla showed his support to the PWD as they presented him their plans. However, Padilla said, “This is not about supporting you by heart but of giving what you need depending on the availability of funds. As long as the Local Finance Committee has agreed with your proposal, we will extend it to you.”
Padilla also encouraged the PWD to improve the services of their canteen located at the Ammungan Park so that their association will increase their break-even income. Padilla will be assigning somebody to audit the association and help them in their financial management.
Padilla also wanted to revive the boating rentals managed by the PWD at the Lagoon of the Capitol. At present, the boats are all in repair condition. Padilla ordered to have 4 boats repaired and 4 other new boats will also be provided. “I want you to be self-reliant. I don’t want to see you as beggars,” Padilla added.
With the presence of Nequita Castro, manager of Lower Magat Eco-Tourism Park (LMET), and Dominador Abalos of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Padilla proposed that the PWD will also manage the boating activity at the LMET (if they are capable of doing it). With the plan to open a restaurant at the LMET, Padilla is also looking into consideration that the management of the restaurant will also be entrusted to the PWD.
Padilla also asked the BFAR to assist in the repair of the boats and trainings of the PWD. The BFAR then promised to donate some project materials to the PWD that may help them in their income generating projects.
“I am very grateful for the proposals of the Governor to the PWD because these will enhance their skills and will improve their sources of income. We will support for the implementation of these projects, ” Tabudlo said.
Abalos, Castro and Tabudlo set another meeting to discuss on the proposals of the Governor to the PWD. #bg
