PESD orients NV’s SAGUT Scholars

Student leaders of the 300 grantees under the Nueva Vizcaya SAGUT Scholarship Program (NVSSP) were oriented by the Public Employment Services Division (PESD) of the Governor’s Office last July 22 at the Provincial Capitol Quadrangle.

Acting PESD Manager Dolly Rose C. Minas discussed the documents required to be submitted by the grantees, such as certificates of grades and theses of graduating students, along with the steps and procedures in the processing of their financial benefits, and incentives for honor awardees.

According to Ms. Minas, the latest package of benefits for each scholar consists of a P5,000 monthly stipend, and a book and uniform allowance of P2,500 that is given every first semester. She also said that NVSSP grantees who graduate with honors are entitled to additional cash incentives, namely: Summa Cum Laude, P15,000; Magna Cum Laude, P10,000; and Cum Laude, P5,000. In addition, a grantee who tops an examination administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) or any similar government institution will be given a cash incentive of P100,000.

Ms. Maria Jonem P. Gacad, Asst. Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator who represented Governor Carlos M. Padilla, Provincial Scholarship Committee (PSC) Chairperson, talked about career development and the need for the grantees to render service under the auspices of the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya (PGNV).

Also joining as a resource person was Mr. Rommel B. Javier, a product of the NVSSP’s precursor PAMANA Scholarship Program, and a grantee of the joint DOLE-PGNV Government Internship Program (GIP). He served as a facilitator during the day’s activity and also shared among the NVSSP student leaders his learnings and experiences being a PGNV scholar.

The NVSSP, which is part of the PGNV’s programs that address poverty, food security, and environmental issues and concerns, is open to incoming first-year students of the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) who belong to economically-challenged families. The grantees must also be physically and mentally fit to finish their chosen courses, and willing to render community service.

All applicants who have submitted the basic requirements, such as High school report card, 2×2 photo, Good moral character certificate, Barangay clearance, NVSU entrance examination result, and BIR Certificate of Tax Exemption of Parents, are subjected to screening by the Provincial Scholarship Committee (PSC) with the help of its Secretariat headed by Ms. Minas. Five scholars from each of the 15 component municipalities of the province are admitted every year to replace those who are graduating.
