Liga conducts 1st Barangay Congress

By on March 24, 2015

The local chapter of the Liga ng mga Barangay (Liga) here launched the first ever ‘Barangay Congress for Good Governance.” Participants include all barangay captains, council chair for women, youth and children and barangay treasurers aiming to promote the different principles of democracy.

Local Government Officer Michael Camacam stressed the fact that the barangay is important because being the basic political unit; it is through them that we can get closer to our people. It serves as the very instrument of linkage between the national, provincial and municipal governments in implementing programs and projects. Otherwise, such programs may not be properly implemented thus, showing the importance of the existence of the barangays.

The congress, which was made possible thru the initiatives of Hon. Victor Gines, Liga President and Member Ex-officio of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, was held to ensure that “local barangay officials will continue to be responsive and accountable to the local community.”

Meanwhile, Governor Ruth Raña Padilla was overwhelmed to see the full support of local barangay officials who attended the congress. As such, she extended her gratitude for the continuous support of local community leaders. She even cited former Provincial Director of the Department of Interior and Local Government Atty. Odilon Pasaraba who said “napintas iti programa iti gobyerno para iti barangays tayo ket ibagak nga tuladin kuma ket aramiden nga modelo iti dadduma nga probinsiya ditoy rehiyon iti Nueva Vizcaya.”

The concepts of responsibility, accountability and transparency were also given utmost concern. The Governor claimed that the three concepts are very important in order to realize the much sought after dream of having a good government. However, Padilla said that such a dream is impossible if elected officials will not have themselves answerable to their constituents. “Dapat kada sentimo na ginastos mula sa kaban ng bayan ay maipaliwanag kung saan ginamit at kung ang mga ito ba ginasta sa tamang pamamaraan. It is by being transparent that our people will see how responsive and accountable we are to them,” Padilla ended. #jeremy‬
